Privacy Policy

Herofy Stories is a small independent business that creates personalised digital storybooks for children. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use myherofy.com, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

By placing an order, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

When you create a story, we collect:

• Your child's name, age, and gender or pronouns
• Your child's interests, favourite things, and any other personal details you choose to share to personalise the story
• An optional best friend's name, pet name, or special power, if you choose to include them
• An optional photo of your child, if you choose to upload one, used only to make the story's illustrations look more like them — see Section 3 for exactly how this is used and Section 5 for how long it exists
• Your email address, provided via our payment processor at checkout, used to send your purchase confirmation
• Payment details: these are processed entirely by Stripe. We never see, receive, or store your card number or payment credentials

We only collect what is needed to create your story and process your order. You are in control of what you share.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information you provide is used solely to:

• Generate your child's personalised story using AI
• Process your payment through Stripe
• Deliver your purchase confirmation and story download link

We do not use your child's information for marketing, advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond creating the specific story you ordered. We do not add your email address to any mailing list without your explicit consent.

3. AI Story Generation and Illustrations

Stories are generated using Anthropic's Claude AI. The details you provide about your child, including their name, age, interests and story preferences, are sent to Anthropic's API to produce the story text. This is the core function of our service.

Illustrations are generated using OpenAI's image generation API. The story text and a short description of your child's appearance (built from the details you provide, or from an uploaded photo — see below) are sent to OpenAI solely to produce the illustrations for your story.

Optional child photo.If you choose to upload a photo of your child, it is used only as a visual reference so the illustrations resemble them, and only for the single order you upload it for. The photo is sent to OpenAI's image API to generate one stylised, hand-illustrated character portrait in the book's art style — every illustration in your story is generated from that portrait, never from the photo directly. The original photo is never stored on our servers, never written to a database or file storage, never included in logs, analytics, error reports, or the finished PDF, and is discarded as soon as that one request finishes processing. Uploading a photo is entirely optional and is never required to complete a purchase.

We encourage you to share only the details that are genuinely helpful for creating a great story. Please do not include sensitive information such as home addresses, school names, or financial details.

4. Payment Processing

All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. When you check out, you are interacting directly with Stripe's secure payment infrastructure. Herofy Stories does not receive, store, or have access to your card number, CVV, or full payment credentials at any point.

5. Data Retention

Order records (email address, order details, and payment reference) are retained for seven years to meet our tax and accounting obligations.

The personal details you provide about your child — their name, interests and story preferences, are used during story generation and are not stored beyond what is technically necessary for that process.

An uploaded photo exists only for the length of one story-generation request: it is held in server memory while your illustrations are created, then discarded. It is never written to a database, file storage, backup, or log. If you close the page before your story finishes generating, any photo you uploaded is not retained for a later attempt.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with:

• Stripe: to process your payment
• Anthropic: to generate your story via their AI API
• OpenAI: to generate your story's illustrations, including processing an uploaded child photo (if you choose to provide one) as described in Section 3
• Any party required by applicable law, such as a court order or regulatory authority

No other third parties receive your information.

7. Cookies

Our website uses only the cookies that are essential for the checkout process. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Stripe may set cookies as part of their payment processing functionality.

8. Children's Privacy

Herofy Stories is a service for parents and guardians to create stories for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. All information is provided by adults on behalf of the child for whom the story is being created.

If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us without parental consent, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about your order. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at contact@myherofy.com. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically.
